The Great Blue Herons of Stanley Park
Apr 11, 2022
One of the most majestic animals you are likely to see on your trip to Stanley Park in Vancouver is the Great Blue Heron. The colony of Great Blue Herons in Stanley Park is the biggest in North America. Their breeding season stretches from March until the end of summer, so you have plenty of opportunity to catch the Herons hard at work, gathering food and feeding it to their chicks. The male and female birds divide the work evenly, so both Mom and Dad take turns gathering food.
The VanWalks Stanley Park Seawall walking tour has a stop dedicated to the Great Blue Herons in Vancouver. It's conveniently located near the Stanley Park Brewing Brewpub, so stop in for a drink or a meal after you have checked out the Herons.
The City of Vancouver Heron Cam provides real time views of the Great Blue Heron. You can even take control of the camera and choose which nest you want to peek in on. It's quite a lot of fun.
